Life of a Blogger: Introvert or Extrovert

Life of a Blogger is a weekly meme hosted by Jessi over at Novel Heartbeat!

There will always come a time in life when an introvert will need to be a bit like an extrovert and an extrovert will need to a bit like an introvert. This is why I'm glad that I'm both. Honestly, this may be a weird way to answer the introvert/extrovert question, but it's true. I am both an introvert and an extrovert.

You might be thinking
but it's really not that weird when you think about it...

When it comes to going outside and hanging out with people versus staying inside and working on the blog or reading, I'd rather me working on the blog or reading. Unless my friends are playing volleyball, then I'm all over that.

Part of being a team in volleyball would be getting along with a group of people and doing things that other people like to do with said people. At first, it was very difficult for me to get along with the rest of my team because I felt awkward and out of place. Naturally, I'm not an outgoing (extrovert) person until I get to know somebody. Then once I get to know somebody, I guess I can be a bit...crazy. But until I get to know them, I'm either (a) cold or (b) an introvert where I won't talk to them at all.

I'm under the impression that people need to approach me first, which shouldn't be the case. I should approach them first otherwise we'll probably never talk. I'm slowly getting better at approaching others first, but I feel like I'm doing it all wrong, and I'm only succeeding in freaking them out.

Theoretically, I'm an extrovert. Anybody who knows me would say I'm an extrovert (I've asked). But if you asked me and I didn't let other people's opinions influence mine, then I would say I'm an introvert. It just depends on my mood and who I'm around, really. But isn't it like that for everyone?

So tell me: are you an introvert or an extrovert?

  1. Great post Tori! I understand what you mean about being both. I classify myself as an introvert, and to people who don't know me would assume I'm an introvert also. However, the people who know me well wouldn't dream of calling me an introvert as around them, I'm an extrovert.

    1. Exactly! There are just some times where I'm quiet and other times when I want to converse with everyone! When it comes to books, I'm definitely an extrovert, because I love talking about books. But when it comes to topics I really don't care about, I'm an introvert, because I just want people to leave me alone.

  2. I definitely have very chatting and outgoing moments when I'm with my friends, but I think I'm overall more introverted. I find it so hard to work up the courage (or desire) to start a conversation with a stranger. BUt once I find something in common with someone, I become a lot less shy.

    1. Same! I like to talk to new people, but sometimes it's hard for me to accept the fact that this person isn't going to go all axe murderer on me and kill me. :P Usually when I'm with friends, I can talk to anybody, though. I'm mostly shy when I'm by myself and I have to talk to someone new.

  3. I definitely understand what you mean. I am pretty much socially inept, unless I'm around friends or people I have known for a very long time - then I am kind of crazy. My friends would never describe me as quiet. But if I am out and surrounded by people I don't know, then I am way too shy and rarely talk at all. Great blog btw, new BL follower :) Thanks for checking out my haul post!

  4. Oh I get what you mean about being an extrovert, but only theoretically. I can kind of relate. People see me as an extrovert but I guess if I really think about it I am more of an introvert, because I like being alone more than being with people. It just drains my energy.

    1. I know! I'll be with friends and I'll be so hyper and pumped up, but then I'll get home or alone, and it's like, "Why did I just exert myself like that? I'm so tired now..."

And okay! I'll go check out your post :D

  5. I am definitely an introvert. Haha! I can totally relate to this post. You sound more like an introvert to me cause that's how all introverts are. I mean, introverts aren't always quiet. We're having awesome fun in our brains, but our faces don't always show it! lol! When you're with friends, you trust them to appreciate your awkwardness, so you don't mind being all pumped and crazy with them. Strangers? That's a total different story *cringes* Talking to strangers has always creeped me out, but I kind of just have to get over myself (and pretend that I'm talking to the person over the internet instead of face to face haha!) Go to a crowded party? No way! I rather stay home and read! I can only go to parties where I know almost everyone there and it's not too loud, which my friends find totally weird. lol! I loved this post! Followed via bloglovin :D
