Okay, I'm really not that ashamed of it...but you know. I think that's pretty much equivalent to saying, "I've never read a John Green book." Okay, maybe not. Maybe, "I've never read Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit." No? I know a lot of people who haven't read that book series. But I mean, guys...
Just let this sentence sink in: Tori, a young adult book blogger, has not read the Harry Potter series.
If it makes you Potterheads feel better, I've read the first three books in the series.
Yes, okay, I'm sort of done with gifs now. Anyway, back onto the main point. I, Tori Davis, have not read Harry Potter. I stopped after Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Why, you ask? Well, because I lost my copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I had found it at Goodwill and bought it but then I lost it and I just never bought another copy after I finished Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
You Harry Potter people know that the book series doesn't get interesting until the fourth book (or so I've heard...). The first three are just fun. There aren't any major cliffhangers or anything.
Yeah so I just haven't picked up another Harry Potter book since 2010. #noshame
Maybe it will be a Summer 2014 goal of mine. You know, to read--or at least finish--the Harry Potter series. How does that sound? I can make it a big deal on this blog and have a whole segment where I talk about reading Harry Potter.
I think that sounds good.
I've never read all the HP books up until last Fall as well, so you're not alone. :D And even now, after finishing it, I'm still not that ... overwhelmed. I mean, yeah, I love the series to bits and think it's great, but compared to a lot of other Potterheads, especially those that actually grew up with the series, I'm not that huge of a fan. :X
ReplyDeleteHahaha, honestly, I just haven't had the time! I mean, the books get long after the third one... And ever since I started blogging, I've been more worried about quantity rather than quality. I'd rather read a bunch of short, crappy books than read one really long but really good book (is this just me?). I just want to get as many reviews out as possible, which might be a problem. xD
DeleteYes, even you love it. I've seriously gotta get myself the series and finish it one of these days.
Well... yeah, they're long, but honestly, you'll probably finish them in a few days. I'd recommend to start reading them over the weekend or something. I finished Order of the Phoenix, which is 900 pages long, within two and a half days. :x They're actually really engrossing!
DeleteHold on...
DeleteIT'S 900 PAGES? IT'S 900 FREAKING PAGES? The longest book I've read is Breaking Dawn, and that was only around 700-800... 900 is a lot of pages.
Ah, okay! But I'll probably end up reading the rest of the series this summer if not going back to the first one this summer just to get the full affect. I'm sick of feeling so left out. (I've seen the movies though so I pretty much know who dies and stuff.)
Well, my small little paperback copy is 900 pages. I think the US hardcover is only around 800.
DeleteReading it during Summer would probably be a good idea. My plan was to read it over the Winter holidays, but sometime in October, I was like "Nah. I want to read them now." Luckily though, I had the flu back then so I basically had three instead of two weeks of Fall break and I could just power through them then.
I had seen the movies before I read the books as well, but I noticed that there's LOTS of things the movies left out, especially in Book 4, and that made reading them easier. Like, I watched the TV show before starting on the Game of Thrones books, and I had some difficulty reading the POV chapters I didn't like, since I already knew what was going on anyway, but that didn't happen with HP, fortunately. (Although I have to say that everyone told me they cried while reading Dobby's death, but not during the movie and for me it was the other way around. I was at the cinema with my cousin and my mom and Dobby's death was at the end of Deathy Hallows pt 1 and I left the cinema sobbing like crazy. xD But I didn't cry at all during the book...)
Ah, I see. I don't own it, so I don't know xD
DeleteYeah, I'll probably do that and make some discussion posts on this blog about it. I feel like that would be a fun idea to mull around until June/July. Fortunately for me, there are so many other books that I need to/can read so I won't have any difficulty waiting for summer xD
Oh my gosh, everyone is talking about Game of Thrones! I need to read that series! I haven't seen the TV shows, so I literally have NO IDEA what the books are about. And I don't really cry for books or movies. Only when it's really late at night and I'm feeling emotional, to be honest. So I didn't cry for Dobby's death. I didn't know it was going to happen though, and it took me by surprise. I thought it was done pretty well in the movie. xD
Speaking of going to the theater with your mom...my mom cries so much for movies and books. I kind of don't want to go to the theater with her to see The Fault in Our Stars because she'll probably sob. xD Have you read The Fault in Our Stars?
Don't worry, I still haven't read the last HP book and the looks people give me sometimes when I tell them, makes me feel like I ran over their grandmother lol I really did enjoy them and they are one of my all time favorite series, but like you I just haven't had time and they do get exceptionally long (especially the 5th one, which I think is probably my least favorite).
ReplyDeleteIn regards to quality vs. quantity I also feel like I read a lot of shorter books, so I can get out more reviews. Which unfortunately sometimes means leaving the longer books on my TBR for what seems like forever xD
Oh my god, I know right! I'm tired of my friends who don't even like reading saying, "Oh my gosh Tori you haven't read Harry Potter?! Are you insane?!" I just want to shake them and yell, "YOU DON'T EVEN READ BOOKS. YOU HAVE NO ROOM TO TALK." But I don't, so. And I'll most likely read them this year. I'm sick of everyone loving them and me not reading them. After all, I am a book person... The HP series should be a piece of cake... o.o
DeleteUgh, I know. It's sort of annoying. For example, right now I'm reading 5 books, and the only "long" book is Patherfinder...and I haven't picked that up since January 12th. I mean, I'm reading The Fiery Heart, which is longer than 300, but it's only around 400, so it's not that bad. I feel like I need to try and read at least one book over 500 pages each month.
(Cress will be this months' 500+ pages book, aha.)
*GASP* It's really not all that terrible that you haven't read the series (even though it's my favorite YA series--- no judgement here), but it really does get really good in the 4th book.
ReplyDeleteEven though they are quite long they are very engaging and you don't realize how much you've read.
I hope that you get to them eventually. It stinks feeling that you have you read short books that aren't very good in order to post reviews (I was feeling like that last fall. It didn't feel very good at all.)
Happy Reading!
It's your favorite? Just another reason that I need to read it asap! And I'm glad that it gets better after the 4th book. xD
DeleteI've heard that they're very interesting, and since the writing is fast, they're easy to read. My friend who isn't a big reader has read the Harry Potter series, so that says a lot about it. I definitely need to get on the HP bandwagon! (:
Thanks! You too!
I feel you Tori I have only read the first book of the Harry Potter series myself but I plan on reading the others soon too.
ReplyDeleteAh, we could read them together or something and discuss it with one another (; That way we'd both get the series over and done with <3
